It’s that time of year once more. Yes, you got it right! The arrival of flu season. Admit it, nobody likes falling ill, let alone visiting doctors for prescribed medications. So… imagine if you could tap into the potential of nature and utilize ingredients that you can cultivate in your own backyard. The secret lies in what and how. And that’s precisely why you’re here, reading this recipe! I will guide you on creating the most exceptional flu-fighting syrup, capable of thwarting the advancement of the flu even before it takes hold. Let’s get started!
Garlic and onion super power
Garlic is a multitasking wonder, possessing antibiotic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties. A 2012 study from Washington State University showcased its remarkable potency, with garlic outperforming two common antibiotics by 100 times against the Campylobacter bacterium, a prevalent gut microbe. When crushed, garlic releases allicin, its active component, which, when combined with raw honey, undergoes an enzymatic process that enhances its effectiveness. On to onions! Research on onions demonstrated their impact on various bacterial strains, exhibiting bactericidal effects on both cultured and resting bacterial cells. Notably, onions proved effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA.
Ginger and Turmeric wonders
Ginger and turmeric, like two sides of a coin, share a family of benefits. Turmeric, known for its vibrant yellow hue, has been scientifically proven to enhance and activate white blood cells, thus bolstering the immune system. Ginger, on the other hand, excels in treating nausea, pain, inflammation, and fighting off infections, making it a heroic ally for the immune system.
Medicinal herbs
The herbs in this syrup—oregano, peppermint and Lemon balm ,play crucial roles in defending our bodies against unwelcome intruders. Oregano, for instance, is a powerful antimicrobial that can combat a wide range of pathogens. It is also the most mineral-rich herb, particularly in zinc, a vital nutrient for supporting the immune system. Peppermint and lemon balm possess excellent antibacterial properties, effectively eliminating emerging pathogens.
These herbs contain quercetin, a compound with potent antiviral effects. Recent clinical trials have shown that patients with the Covid-19 virus experience positive recovery benefits when taking quercetin alongside standard care. As an added bonus, quercetin acts as a zinc ionophore, facilitating the cellular absorption of this essential mineral.
Pineapple juice is a valuable provider of proteolytic enzymes, specifically bromeliad, which aids in reducing inflammation and minimising mucus production. Eucalyptus essential oil serves a dual purpose: it acts as a powerful decongestant and contains a main component called cineole, which exhibits antimicrobial effects. This essential oil effectively combats a wide range of viruses, fungi, and bacteria by enhancing the activity of phagocytes.

1 large Raw Red Onion (chopped)
¼ cup of Fresh Oregano Leaf (finely chopped)

Instructions
Ensure that the honey is thick and completely raw. The best choice is Manuka Honey as it contains optimal antibiotic properties.
Begin by washing and drying all the ingredients.
Take a glass jar and layer the finely chopped leaves, vegetables and lemon juice, with a layer of honey in between each ingredient. Repeat the layering until all the ingredients are used. Keep the jar at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, for about 24-48 hours until a syrup-like consistency is formed.
Use a fine nut milk bag to strain the contents of the jar. Place the bag over a clean mason jar and pour the syrup into the bag. Squeeze the bag tightly to extract all the liquid while leaving behind the fibrous contents.
Add the cayenne pepper, eucalyptus oil, and pineapple juice to the extracted syrup. Stir vigorously until all the ingredients are well combined.
Store the Flu Bomb Syrup in a cool cabinet for several months. Alternatively, refrigerate it for over a year to prolong its shelf life.
